Chamonix town centre
For those with a good head for heights,
why not leave the centre of the town and take a cable car ride
up to one of surrounding peaks? The highest and most famous
of these is the Téléphérique de l’Aiguille
du Midi built in 1955. At 3842m, the top station is the highest
cable car station in the Alps. The peak of l’Aiguille
du Midi can just be seen in the picture opposite, rising high
above the valley to the south. Other cable cars in the area
journey up the Brévent, le Tour Col de Balme, La Flégère
and Les Grands Montets. |
